Silly Little Sonnets

Who Am I?

Just some guy. Born in an elevator in the Florida Keys.

Now, I’m, um… still in Florida; trying my best (doing my worst).

Recently, I began publishing personal essays that expand on topics ranging from addiction to neoliberalism, and how we can find meaning in our lives despite the existence of these two things.

I also write short fiction and poetry, and my posts are categorized on my homepage.

A couple promises…

I promise to never use A.I. in the creation of my posts. A human edited this ‘About’ page at exactly 3:12 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

I will not spam your inbox. Expect 1 email from me per week. You can always change this setting on the Substack website, or unsubscribe at any time.

Last October, I self-published a book of poems and short stories. “Silly Little Sonnets” is the name of one of the poems, which inspired the title of this publication.

In Spring 2026, I unpublished my book from Amazon to make changes to the manuscript and the cover. (Also, Amazon is an unethical corporation that produces shitty books.)

A reissue of Hollow Trophies is in the works, which I plan to release through Barnes & Noble sometime this year.

No pressure to pay…

Beneath this text is a ‘subscribe’ button. None of my posts are paywalled, so I encourage you to subscribe to my newsletter for free.

There’s no pressure to buy a subscription. Select that option only if you can afford it and want to support an impoverished, hairy 30-something for $5/month (or $45/year).

Bio

“Scott Crain was taught in Broward County, Florida public schools and educated in South Florida bars and stages. As a singer-songwriter, he has long been drawn to stories of the struggle, of love and paychecks that are not enough; of families that work like families should, to a point; of triumph and failure as it is lived in humid, sticky circumstances. Now, he is turning that eye to poetry.

A familiar face on the South Florida music scene, Scott has been a part of a number of bands. He also runs independent record label Unfiltered Southern Grit. His writing mixes humor and indignation, cold-eyed realism and hard-won optimism. He is an exciting young voice whose words thrive on the page as well as they have when coming from a microphone.”
